The Mate Experience
Strong Words from the Country of Argentina
In the previous incarnation of this blog, I spent a year as an intern for the international organization The Foundation for Sustainable Development (hitherto to be refered to simply as FSD) in La Plata, Argentina, interning symultaneously at The Institute for Human Rights, in the Law School at the National University of La Plata and the Civil Asociacion Educaser. During this time period I worked in helping with the Human Rights Masters program offered by the Institute; worked in the field with the various educational support programs offered by Educaser through out La Plata; designed and carried out my own independent project regarding accessable health coverage as a human right “Cuidá tus derechos”; picked up a really bad Argentine accent; made amazing friendships; drank a lot of mate; managed to weasel my way into having my own apartment; and had some unforgettable travel experiences.
Currently I am working in a paid position for the Civil Asociacion Educaser, leading a normal everyday life in La Plata, and trying hard to come up with interesting things to write about! Which is a new challange in and of itself. I hope that my past and current insights and reflections can give you some window into life in La Plata, life in Argentina and life inside my head!
You certainly do have a giant set of brass balls to do this Jen!!! Great stuff! Let us know the lay of the land. How seedy is La Plata’s night-life, how glorious are the good neighborhoods?
Good luck Jen and do whatever you can to get out of that law school!!!! HAHAHA!!!!!
Jen! It looks like you are having an amazing experience! (Leave it to me to need to procrastinate from paper writing to read your blog) but the pics are awesome. Do you have an email address?
Get in touch!
I didnt’ realize you updated this portion!! nice-nice.

Hola Jenny:
Me encantó. Me encanta conocer la perspectiva de una americana acerca de mi ciudad y sobre todo porque lo haces con mucho “sense and sensibility”. A partir de ahora tienes otro lector cautivo.
Un beso
