This week a new group of kiddies arrived from the states to begin their internships. Just as we spent the first few days doing community service work here in La Plata, so did they. One of the projects they did was paint a room in a comedor that I work with through Educaser, it is called Las Pirulines. The director of the comedor recognized me from the television (I am famous here!) a while ago and then approached me to see if FSD was interested in coming and working in their space. So I hooked them up my coordinator, and they went to paint on Monday and I went to take pictures (and paint a little…not totally lazy!) for Educaser to use on their web site and for FSD.
The director of the comedor also spent about an hour talking to my coordinator at FSD, and it looks like they are going to set up an internship and send one of the next interns to work directly with the comedor, because the are looking for educational support for the neighborhood, and the comedor also has a bakery that they began and they sell the bread. But they are seriously lacking in a marketing strategy, they are capable of making more bread than they can sell. So it would be a pretty amazing, and dynamic internship…offering educational support to children as well as creating are marketing strategy for the bakery. I am glad that I could make the link and I hope that it pans out.
