Been running around like a chicken with my head cut off trying to get everything in order. While India was “glorious”, it left me a little short on time. But after getting ride of my apartment, finding a home for my car, changing banks, throwing a going away party, canceling my phone, spending way to much time lamenting leaving my friends, and packing…I think I will finally be ready to go by tomorrow.
Just for a little back ground for those who don’t know all the details, here is a skeleton outline for my trip.
I am flying out tomorrow to Buenos Aires, where I will be taking part in a two week long intensive Spanish language program. Although I (totally humbly) think that my Spanish is fine and wouldn’t really greatly improve from 2 weeks in a language class, I also realize that when I officially begin my program I will be attempting to juggle a new culture, a new accent, a new city, living in someone else’s house and a brand new job. That is a lot for day one. So I decided to take this language class so I could ease into things a little more…maybe scope out the new culture and the new accent before I have to deal with the other parts of the total life over hall. I mean I am trying to jump start my inspiration and learn things about myself and the world of development…but I am not trying to kill myself in doing so!
Then my program officially begins January 26th, and which point I will be in La Plata (here is a map, I like maps!). At which point I have a week long orientation with my group, which I believe will consist of two or three other Americans who are starting at the same time as me. But they all have their own separate internships and host family placements. Speaking of host family placements…I still don’t have mine. But I will keep you all updated. Then after the orientation, I will begin my job at The Institute for Human Rights at the Law School at La Plata University (beware, those links are in Spanish, but I still urge you to take a look). I don’t know exactly what I will be doing there yet…but again, will keep ya’ll posted! Also, supposedly this internship is only part time, so I will also be searching for another part time internship once I get down there. And hopefully this second opportunity will be more hands on. It would be really nice to mix it up, and get two really different experiences, one from an academic, distanced point of view, and one more from the level of who all these laws and theories are actually affecting! Yet again….I will keep everyone posted.
Past those cold hard facts I just stated, I really have no idea what I am doing or what is going on! And really all my primitive, hedonistic self can really think about is….what is the food going to be like down there! YUM!
I lovey ou and miss you already and i think im first.
